The Tale Of Bluebeard and The Room of Trespassby Donna Taylor BurgessLong ago there was a young girl who worked in a vineyard along the edge of a black forest. Her name was Bettina, and at night she would return home, foot-weary and exhausted, to her parents. Her meager wages supplied necessities for the three, as her parents were aged and quite frail. One day, a nobleman spied her as she made her way to the vineyard. Loving the way her golden hair caught the morning sun and how the dew glistened on her cheek, he decided immediately to ask her father for her hand. Learning this, Bettina was horrified, having seen this man from time to time in the village. He frightened her greatly. Though dressed as a wealthy gentleman, he wore a beard, tangled and rough, of a color that was almost blue. Indeed he was called Bluebeard. A foul stench emanated from his skin, and his nails were constantly grimed with filth.
