CHAPTER ONE
"Brent Ventura just arrived."
Marla Foster glanced up at the clock and then looked at Yvonne, the secretary she shared with three other account executives. "He's here already?"
"Hmm. And he's got the look, mama," said Yvonne with obvious relish.
Marla smiled as she started gathering together the information on her desk about Ventura. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"You'll see," Yvonne answered in a promising tone of voice. "I really hope he signs with the agency. That's one client I definitely wouldn't mind having around."
Marla stood up, straightened her peach-colored blouse, and ran a comb through her long, straight, dark blond hair. "I hope he signs, too," she said earnestly. Her eyes met Yvonne's. It was no secret that Marla's career at the advertising agency had suffered some severe blows recently. In a highly competitive business where a dozen people could be laid off on any given day, her job was hanging by a thread.
