He blinked, his vision darkening ... and froze. For superimposed upon the images of the men and women of the Circle, frozen in timeless concentration and beauty, were the lineaments of horror. Those serene faces were but tissue coverings for leering decay, shreds of charred flesh hanging in obscene strips from grinning, whitened bone. Sickly blue light played over the eye sockets, faintly reflected within. Instead of graceful cupped hands, he saw skeletal claws, suspended in agony and greed around a pulsating maw of raw psychic hunger.
