Erasmus looked around at the heavily populated club from his seat at the bar with very little enthusiasm, his jet black brows furrowed in consternation. He began to mull over his situation, examining the strangely fluorescent alcoholic mixture in his glass with displeasure. The High Council had appointed him as the head of the science mission to locate any species that could resist their powerful mind reading. He had been sent specifically to No Holes Barred, since it was a galactic melting pot of races.
Since the time he had been mandated to the mission, he had been frequenting the club with no sign of hope in finding a solution to his problem. Perhaps the good people of Lisieux had been wrong in trusting him to complete such an important mission, he thought irritably.
He ran a golden brown hand through his long, thick black hair. He desperately didn't want to go back to his home planet with the news that their situation was hopeless, that there would be no mate anywhere in the galaxy that was compatible with their species and also could not be read.
The High Council had been right in one respect. From what he'd been able to ascertain, representatives from all over the known universe ended up in the club if one only waited long enough or, as he'd done, cruised the club circuit. And by far, although some did have telepathic abilities, very few had the unique abilities, or flaw, of his own kind, depending upon how one looked at it.
Even those capable of communicating telepathically could not see as his people could. They were not instantly burdened the moment they touched to know all, the past and the future.
The problem was, they were spared the burden of knowing, but he wasn't.
He had read the lives of many, many different races, searching rapidly at first, with excitement and enthusiasm, emotions he had not experienced before in his life and had had a great deal of trouble dealing with, and then gradually giving up as every female he came into contact with left him with images of their entire lives.
