She grabbed her gun with both hands, took a stance. At the same time, I heard someone run up behind me. "This time, Jack, I'm putting you out of commission." She all but snarled it. I wished myself out of the room. Neola fired. Twice. I felt something pass through what should've been my right shoulder. I fell on my knees and watched my body reassemble itself. Something warm trickled down my arm. Blood dripped through my cuff onto the back of my hand to the tips of my fingers. Neola's legs appeared in front of me. I hadn't left the room, probably because of the super-conjugator. "What's the matter, Jack, having problems with your telecarb? That's too bad. You're staining the carpet, but I imagine a little more blood won't make a difference. Since this wound isn't life-threatening, I'll remedy that." She raised the gun to my temple.
