Jason Peters loved nothing more than to hear his name being shouted in reverence. Blessed with good looks and a face that never seemed to age, everyone loved and treated him like a god. The studio audience stood, applauding as he uttered his character's final words. His television series, The Drummonds, was ending after thirteen successful seasons. After taking his final bow, Jason rushed from the stage apparently swept away with grief. No one tried to stop him. The entire studio was saddened by the conclusion of the series and understood how he must have felt. In actuality, he was giving everyone one last performance. He needed to be alone--have time to prepare. He was late for an appointment, an appointment he had no intention of attending. Jason entered his dressing room panting heavily, his skin slightly pink. He collected some of his personal items stuffing them into an open tote bag. He didn't bother changing out of his stage clothing. Every wasted moment he spent in a place where he could be found brought him that much closer to him. Most of his bags were already packed and hidden away, awaiting pick-up. He would not be returning to any of his homes or apartments across the country. Sealing the tote bag, Jason took a moment to scan the room. Photographs of him posing with other actors and actresses lined the walls of the dressing room. He was already missing the amazing life he'd shared with many of his celebrity friends, hobnobbing with the rich and powerful. He recalled his life before stardom, before his riches. These same people he now called friends ... these same people who had countless times invited him over to their homes for parties, would have been his targets. He would have stolen from them, lied to them, taken advantage of them and not given it a second thought. He hadn't thought of his past life for a long time. Until the last few days, he had forgotten it even existed. Tying his long hair into a ponytail, he put on a baseball cap. Draping the tote bag across his shoulder, Jason hid his face and headed out of the room. Busy with shutting the television studio down, studio crew did not notice him as he easily slipped past. As he stepped out of the well air-conditioned building, his skin was assaulted by the hot afternoon sun. The parking lot was empty. He saw his fans on the other side of the building awaiting his exit from the front entrance. The realization that he was leaving behind his fame and fortune forever overcame him and his hands began to shake. He could never be Jason Peters again--to do so, would be welcoming a visit from the bail bondsman and settling a debt he did not want to pay.
