Love, Lust and the Delta [What Death Cannot End Book 2] [MultiFormat]
eBook by Ivana Peters

eBook Category: Romance/Historical Fiction
eBook Description: Ivana Peters' What Death Can Not End is the epic tale of a couple fated to live a life of love--yet destined for tragedy again and again. Two Grecian gods choose a pair of mortals for a game of passion that is secretly cursed by the jealous interference of a third. The curse can only be removed by the continual reaffirmation of lovers' undying devotion, lifetime after lifetime. From ancient Greece to the modern age, the two lovers find each other anew as their love burns hot and spirals toward inevitable doom. Love, Lust and the Delta continues the saga in the antebellum South, teetering on the brink of Civil War. John Walker has never fancied himself a ladies' man, but when he meets Josephine Adkins at a picnic he is drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Only his "Southern gentleman" upbringing keeps his burning desire at bay. As the war between the states heats up, so does their love. The story follows the passions of Johnny and Josephine against the lush backdrop of the antebellum south. Love, Lust and the Delta is a wide spanning tale rich with historical detail woven seamlessly into the story and full of robust characters in Johnny and Josephine's orbit. Like the Old South itself, nothing about the story is small.

"Passionate and steamy sex scenes show that love is just as easily shown as being said. The lives of Josey and Johnny are intertwined thanks to the help of Apollo and Aphrodite, who are unfortunately playing a game with their lives. The love that Josey and Johnny share holds up even through one of the most troubling times in the history of the Old South. It is what holds them together and proves that no matter how far apart you may be, love still holds true. There is hope in this story and even more love, sometimes coming across as more than one might be able to handle. A brilliant and moving story, one that I will hold dear to my heart."--Liadan, CoffeeTimeRomance.com

Josephine closed the door to her room and noticed Alaqueen was already in her sleep clothes. She helped Josephine out of her dress and the many layers of underclothes. She asked her a thousand questions, but Josephine remained silent. Thoughts of the tall striking young man filled her head and she had no room for her sister's polite inquisition.

Alaqueen finally drifted off to sleep, but the large room seemed stifling to Josephine. She quietly crawled out of bed and walked over to the balcony. Slowly opening the large French doors, Josephine checked over her shoulder to make sure her sister was soundly asleep. She walked out onto the balcony and drew in a deep breath. The air was scented from the Carolina jasmine and she gazed lazily off into the star filled night. There was no way she could sleep as her mind raced with the most indecent thoughts. Johnny haunted her and seemed to fill her every waking moment. She was smitten, although she would not admit it. Touching her fingertips to her lips, she could almost feel his, softly tracing down her neck, and ran her fingers down he path she imagined he would take. Her eyes shut and her hands traveled lower, down the valley between her breasts, across her stomach and over her hips.

Johnny paced below her window, his hand wrapped tightly around the glass that held his third shot of whiskey. He knew it wasn't right and that both of their reputations would be at stake, but he wanted to hold her in his arms and kiss her, just once. Just once, he lied to himself, and I will leave her for the night. He longed to taste her sweet lips and feel her body pressed against his, to enjoy her caress and the silky tickle of her hair against him. Closing his eyes, he gulped down the drink, and as it burned its way down his throat, he realized the burning in his body overshadowed it by far. He saw the doors to her balcony swing open and threw his empty glass down.

Josephine's fantasy was interrupted when she heard a rustling below and looked down to see Johnny climbing the trellis that ran beside her window. She knew she should shut the doors and walk back into her room, but her heart pounded at the thought of him defying all common convention to see her. This was more than decadent, it was down right sinful.

He jumped onto the balcony and looked down on her, his breath ragged and his eyes glimmering. Placing his finger to his lips, he begged her to keep silent, and when she nodded her reply, his lips curled into a grin. He reached out to her and she willingly fell into his arms. It seemed so right. It felt so good and yet so deliciously wrong.

Their bodies were so close together that she could feel the heat from him, and the rapid beat of his heart. He looked down on her with a feral gleam in his eyes. She shuddered against him as his face drew ever closer to hers. Licking his lips, his strong hands traced the curve of her back and he tangled his fingers in the hair at the base of her neck. Josephine lost herself in his burning gaze and closed her eyes when his soft lips met her trembling ones. Gently he kissed her, his eyes closing as he savored the sweetness that he knew would be there. She held on to his arms, wrapping her hands around his shoulders.

Even though she had read of passionate kisses before, this was different. This was more than any words could express. This felt like heaven on earth. He moved back and reluctantly parted from her lips. Just one was not enough, his mind now told him and he held her face in his hands, tracing her wet lips with his thumb. He had tasted paradise and wanted more.

Josephine could not believe the jolt that one simple kiss had sent though her body. Her head was in a fog and the only thing clearly in her sights was him. She allowed her hands to trail down his chest and settle at his waist, feeling him tremble with each inch she touched. Pulling her back to him, he kissed her again, only this time he was more forceful. His lips pressed hard against hers and he rubbed them along her bottom lip before pulling it into his mouth and running his tongue along it. She moaned and parted her lips enough for him to gain access. He tentatively stroked his tongue between her lips and was greeted by her own, touching his with just the tip. His hands tightened in her hair and his tongue opened her all the way, allowing him to rub and stroke against hers.

She was fuzzy headed with his sensual assault and her body reacted on its own as she pressed her chest against his. This time, it was Johnny that moaned when he felt her breasts heaving through the thin nightgown.

Alaqueen rolled over and noticed the door was open. She sleepily called out. "Josey? Are you ok?"

Josephine jumped back from him, her eyes wide. He reluctantly released her from his arms and threw his leg over the balcony. Smiling at her, his eyes darkened by lust, he blew her a kiss before climbing back down the trellis. She watched him as he landed safely and looked back up at her. He ran his tongue along his lips and winked at her before walking back toward the house. Her hands trembled at the sight and she brushed the hair from her eyes letting her fingers roam across her own lips.

"Josey?"

She sighed and shook her head. Josephine slowly turned and walked back into the bedroom, closing the doors behind her. "I'm just fine. I just needed a little air, that's all."

Josephine crawled into bed and turned away from her sister so she would not see the large grin on her face. She held her hand against her heart and sighed. He had bewitched her and she had enjoyed it. A pang of guilt crept up, but she swiftly pushed it away. She closed her eyes and though of nothing but his lips on hers as she drifted off to sleep.
