"Tabetha there's a couple of really cute guys coming this way."

"Come find me when they give up and leave." She started to stand, not wanting to deal with any more lame pick up lines tonight. Only the annoyed tone in Kathy's voice stopped her from walking away.

"Dammit, Tabs, sit your ass down; don't you dare do this to me. Not this time! At least look at them before you decide to make your escape. Don't you want to know what they look like?"

No! The thought formed before she could stop it, she really didn't want to do this today. Slowly sitting back in her seat, Tabetha sighed in defeat. A knowing grin spreading across her face as understanding of Kathy's forceful demand washed over her. Taking a sip of her drink so that her friend wouldn't notice she asked. "Which one are you interested in?"

"What? How? Dammit Tabetha, don't do that to me. How the hell did you know anyway?"

Tabetha put her drink back on the table and looked up at her very best friend. "You called me Tabs. You only call me that when you're about to ask me to do something you know I really won't like."

"Please be nice to them," Kathy begged.

Tabetha knew she was stalling for time. "Which one, Kathy? I'm not agreeing or looking over until I know who I have to be nice to."

"The blonde." The words came out in a rush, a bright red blush spreading across her cheeks.

Must be serious, Tabetha thought swallowing back another grin. Wait a sec ... "Blonde? But you never--"

Curiosity got the better of her; she had to check out this blonde. She looked over her shoulder and saw the most attractive male specimen she'd ever laid eyes on. He was tall, about 6"2' if she was any judge, with the most stunning blue eyes she had ever seen, sea blue, she realized with a start, her favorite color. His hair, a dark mahogany color, made the clearness of his blue eyes stand out even more. All bound together in a fit and toned package that made her want to run her hands and lips over every single inch. Wondering if he was properly proportioned everywhere, she felt a hot blush creep up her cheeks at the thought, and wondered briefly why Kathy would ever think he was blonde?

"Good lord that man is gorgeous." She hissed louder than expected.

Kathy smiled at her knowingly. "Thought you might say that. You were referring to tall, dark and sexy right?"

"You mean to tell me there was more than just the one man there?" Her eyes never strayed from the God heading her way.

"Tabetha? Earth to Tabetha."

Tabetha snapped out of the trance this man's appearance put on her when Kathy waved a hand in front of her face. There was something about him that appealed to her, pulled her in, made her want to see more. She couldn't put her finger on it, but right now she didn't care. "I'm sorry, Kat, remind me not to do that again. It's like looking straight into the sun. You know you shouldn't, but you can't seem to help yourself."

"So you like what you see?" she teased.

"What's not to like? Mind you he's probably just coming over because his friend is forcing him to." Seeing the dirty look on her friend's face, Tabetha put her hands up in self-defense laughing lightly. "I'll be good, no back biting, no sarcastic comments, no evil curses ... unless otherwise provoked."

"Promise?"

Tabetha grinned mischievously. "I promise to be as charming as I know how to be."

"And the Blonde is mine!"

* * * *

Darren having extremely keen hearing and finally being close enough to their table overheard Tabetha's reply. "Yes dear, the Greek god is all yours."

He stopped cold, his mind racing in circles. It had never occurred to him that, despite Mike's assurances to the contrary, she might still prefer his friend to him.

"Hey, Darren, aren't you coming?"

"Mike, have you ever considered the possibility that she might fancy you more than me?" Darren wasn't sure if he should feel angry or entertained by this new revelation, it never happened to him before.

"No way, Tabetha doesn't even go for blondes according to Kathy; she likes her men dark and brooding. Why?"

Darren sensed the perfect teasing opportunity and took it. "Then why did she just call you a Greek god?"

"She what?"

Darren was torn between laughter at the look on his friend's face and uncertainty over possibly being rejected, a feeling he wasn't familiar with and wasn't sure how to handle. Following Mike's gaze towards the women, he saw Kathy blush and Tabetha grin at her friend's obvious embarrassment. With relief he noted that when her eyes came up it was him that Tabetha was drawn to, not Mike.

"It's called teasing, Buddy. Darren? Come on, Romeo, try charming her with words." Darren grinned sheepishly and started walking.

He'd been prepared for a lot of things, but when their eyes locked, the look he found in hers wasn't one of them. Mike, he noticed, was nervous, as evidenced by the lame line he used when they reached the table.

"Good evening pretty ladies. May we join you?"

He watched the brunette wince at the line, then smile impishly. Beth obviously thinks the same thing.

"That depends, are you here to woo or to bed?"

"Tabetha!"

Darren coughed to cover his laughter at the blush he saw covering both Mike and Kathy's cheeks.

Tabetha's responding grin at her friend's embarrassed reaction told him that she held no jealousy or malice in her intent. "Just trying to lighten the mood a little."

Darren couldn't help himself, he had to know more. "What's the difference between wooing and bedding?"

"Darren!"

This time he did laugh at Mike's reaction. "I'd like to know, and she did bring the subject up. It's only polite to acknowledge her." Besides he never expected her to actually answer him. The slight shrug of her shoulder's pulled him in more.

"Wooing requires gifts, time and patience."

"And bedding?" He loved the way her eyes sparkled when she was amused and about to say something that would pull a reaction from her friend.

"A large--"

"Tabetha if you finish that sentence, you can sleep outside tonight."
