eBook Description: Lady Farayne Gleneden is a beautiful socialite of petty nobility, impeccable grace and education. But she is bored with court life, endless teas, galas and the boors of her peers. She has seen much injustice in her life, dealt to the pathetic creatures that come to her estate to beg food and drink. Why with all the money her family has can they not spare crumbs for the needy? The pain that such unfair treatment and the lack of respect from her peers comes to a head and Farayne decides that there must be more to life than haughty women and boastful men. She embarks on a journey of her own to a despicable and dark part of town--a part of town where a lady of her means would not dare ever travel. Her disguise as to who and what she truly is works--for a while. Meeting lively, but crude, rude and uneducated people, she enjoys seeing how the "other side" live until a brutal attack one evening. She is rescued, but her savior disappears before she can thank him. This leads her yet another adventure to track down the beautiful man who saved her. But he is not quite whom--what--he appears to be and harbors a secret of his own. Farayne is introduced to another side of life--a side of whispers, shadow and eternal damnation. Rating: Explicit Sex--some scenes may offend some readers.

Garrison dropped his gaze. "You say that nothing can change your love for me, but can you possibly love a creature such as I?" Farayne paused only a moment before she answered. "Oh, my sweet ... I am so sorry, my beautiful, beautiful Garrison. I ache for you and all the hurt you have endured. I love you even more intensely now that I know what you are. I thought that I could love you no more than I do, but I do love you more--so much more. You are kind, caring, selfless, and humble. I could not find such traits in any mortal man, even if I searched the world over. I do love you and will always love you even if you can never find it in your heart to love me." Garrison squeezed the sobbing girl even tighter. Never could he have expected to hear such a revelation from this dear sweet child. How could he not accept her affection? How could he not wish to be the lover she wanted him to be? He looked into her deep green eyes and found himself nearly lost in them as he pressed his cold lips gently to hers. His kiss was slow and tender, his passion evident as the kiss intensified. He wanted her, more so than he had ever wanted anything in his life, and he knew that she wanted him. He was apprehensive ... not of loving her, but of hurting her. "Farayne ... I have wished to be with you ... as your lover ... your friend ... and husband since that first night we met, but I am afraid." Farayne started to speak once again probably to reassure him that she had wanted nothing more than the same, but his slender, cold finger silenced her. "No ... please, let me speak. I have been fearful of telling you how I really feel about you, hence my aloof and oftentimes indifferent behavior during our times alone. I am so afraid that you are in love with a dream, a fairytale type of man and I am not he. What if you tire of never seeing the sunrise again? What if you wish to swim in the beautiful lakes here, pick flowers, or even visit the market? "Oh, do not get me wrong ... you are more than welcome to spend as much time in the daylight as you please, my sweet, but I will not be with you when you do. I cannot. There are so many things that I took for granted while I was still mortal and now they are gone forever. I miss the sunlight on my face, I miss the early morning's crisp and fog-saturated air as the sun lifts itself to prominence in the sky ... I miss ... so much of it all. "You must understand, my love, that I can never ever experience any of that with you. Not at any point. Are you certain that you wish to spend your daylight hours alone while I sleep in a cold and dank room?" Tears spilled down Farayne's face as she nodded emphatically. "I love you, Garrison ... not some dream of what I think you are, for I make no presumptions. You are a true gentleman, as real a man as I could ever wish to meet. I wish to be with you and only you, my sweet, and I will make any sacrifices that I must, in order to do so. What is the sunlight when I can spend the rest of my life truly happy?" A single tear ran down Garrison's cheek and he nearly crushed Farayne again as he held her.
