Danielle Shelton stood in the upstairs window of the house she'd grown up in and stared at the new silver Mercedes parked in front of the McCormick residence. Closing her eyes, she prayed not to hate, while the pain in her heart pushed the emotion to the surface. She opened her eyes, glared at the car and knew who owned it. Of all the people in the world, he was the last person she wanted in Barstow. Colby McCormick! "Granny..." The familiar prick of tears assaulted her lashes then slipped down her cheeks in hot tracks. Sniffling, she wiped the wetness from her face. Colby's large frame in a well-tailored suit walked out to the car, paused at the trunk and looked over his shoulder toward her house. He stared as if looking right at her, but that wasn't possible due to the sheers and the glare from the lowering sun. The memory of his intense blue eyes and the countless times he said he loved her pinched her heart She shook off the pain and the thoughts remembering always brought. Despite exhaustion, she still had to get milk and bread from the store. She was glad she had parked her truck out back, giving the appearance no one was home. Stepping away from the window, she decided to get the groceries now. Tomorrow was the funeral for her grandmother. Then somehow she had to move on and manage to keep a shard of her heart in the process. She wondered if she could keep the past behind her. With Colby McCormick's return, would her past face her head on?
