eBook Description: A Bloody murder at the Piper Mansion The only witness, Tasha--a German Shepherd Dog.... There's been a heinous murder in Spike, a small Texas town. The bank president and his wife were found with their throats slashed--discovered by four church ladies when they arrived at the Piper's mansion for their monthly meeting. After stumbling onto the gruesome scene they decided to clean things up before calling the police, to spare the town from seeing the atrocity. But, thanks to those Mount Pleasant Baptist Church's ladies, police chief Matt McAllen and his team have little to go on--and the only witness is Tasha, the Piper's German Shepherd dog. When Becky McAllen, the police chief's wife, becomes Tasha's caretaker, she and the dog become prime targets for the murderer, who's after more blood, and money--the inheritance left behind by the Pipers. Will Becky, who has worked with search dogs in the past, uncover enough clues to expose the murderer before she and Tasha become the next victims?

"Go on inside. The door's standing wide open." "No way, Margaret, I'm not going in there. You hear that dog? It sounds like it has gone mad." Margaret pushed on ahead and led the other three women inside, picking up the broom just inside the door and holding it like a shield out in front of her. Above their heads on the third floor they could hear the dog, snarling and thrashing against a door, accompanied by the sounds of wood splitting to emphasize its anger. Huddled together, the four women ambled into the Piper's family room where they discovered James and Lydia Piper, sitting in their easy chairs, their throats slashed. "Oh my God, they're dead." Earlene articulated every syllable. "No wonder they didn't answer the door. Now, who's going to fund the choir robes?" April and Molly's heads turned in her direction, glaring at her. Earlene's face turned crimson. "Sorry, I didn't mean to say that. I don't know what I'm thinking. Lydia always came through for us whenever we needed anything and if we don't get the robes ordered by the first of next month, they won't be here in time for Christmas and we'll have to resort to another stupid car wash like last year which turned out to be a total wash-out and--now she's gone and I feel awful for thinking what I was thinking." Earlene's voice cracked, not able to continue. Molly ran to her side, patting her shoulder, trying to console her rambling friend. "Look at all that blood on the floor. Oh my God is right, if it runs down on that gorgeous rug it'll ruin it." Margaret despised having anything alter her daily schedule. And this most definitely fell into the category of a major interruption. "We certainly aren't going to be able to go over the church's funding today. I think we should try and at least save that Persian Rug. We can roll it up and put it in the trunk of my car. And God forbid, we certainly don't want anyone else seeing this mess. Okay, ladies, let's get to cleaning. What do you say?" Molly, who speaks only when spoken to, blurted out. "Y'all don't suppose that the person who did this is still in the house, do you? Shouldn't we call the police?" Her face turned a chalky gray as she turned a full circle, taking in the enormous size of the Piper's home. "No, Molly, use your brains. That's why the door was left open. The killer is long gone by now. And could you please go find some sheets so we can cover them up? I'd like to get my pedicure done sometime today before the sun sets, okay ladies?" Margaret glanced at her watch and snapped her fingers. Three heads bobbed in unison, and April stepped forward. "I know where the cleaning supplies are kept. I'll go get them, if someone will shut that dog up. I'm getting a horrible headache from all that racket." Above their heads the growling and barking grew louder. "I'll take care of that dog." Margaret turned toward the staircase holding the broom in front of her with both hands as tight as she would a baseball bat. "Why anybody would keep a nasty animal in the house is beyond me!" The Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church ladies stacked their Bibles on the kitchen counter and proceeded to clean the Piper's family room, saving the one-of-a-kind Persian carpet. Then they called the police so they would not have to see the horrible mess left by the deaths of their town's bank president and his wife. * * * *After their deaths, I encountered an obscured window into James and Lydia Piper's lives that left fate for my future. Their demise and that window changed everything in my life.
