"We've got saucers in the backyard," Abbey told her husband, Miles, over breakfast. "You mean the kind with little green men?" Miles said, glancing up from his faxsheet. "That's right," Abbey answered, "they're all over the garden." "Don't worry. Will Ketchel down the block had the same thing last week. I'll spray when I get home from work. That'll take care of them." "But shouldn't we notify somebody?" Abbey asked, taking another sweet pill. "Can't bother the government with every little invasion that comes along. I'll take care of it this evening." He went back to his printout. "And don't try to do anything by yourself while I'm gone. That stuff's poisonous. I know how to handle it." Abbey crunched her sweet pill savagely--pistachio bacon!--and glared at her husband, her verdigris eyes brimming with venom. Miles continued to ignore her.
