Carter stood outside the double doors leading into Tony and Roveena's home in the portal realm. Hellishiam was, in its own way, beautiful. To name it, or describe it, would be more like the mythical Camelot. He smiled at the thought of a knight here in this realm.
The wind picked up, and he closed his eyes, lifting his face to dark sky. Tonight, he received no comfort in its caress. It was hot, humid; a storm brewed and reeked of an evil that caused Carter to shiver. Something was coming, and there was nothing good about what he was feeling.
A blessing or a curse, Carter wasn't sure, but his psychic ability had grown since the last battle a year earlier.
Had it been only a year since Andreste came into his life? A year since he walked through the portal and his whole life changed. It was a change for the better, but change nonetheless.
"Carter?"
He turned at the sound of Andreste's voice--the woman he would love for the rest of his life. She was beautiful with long blonde hair. She always wore it in a tight braid, a golden band rested above her brow. Her body was both sensual and hard. She was a warrior for Persephone, and probably the most deadly woman alive. He loved her more than his very life.
"I'm here, love." He opened his arms and she stepped into them. Her scent teased him, and his body reacted.
"What troubles you, Carter?"
He turned her, pulling her back against his chest and closed his eyes. The curse of his gift haunted him now. For the first time in his life, he wished he couldn't see into the future.
"Trouble is making its way to us. I can feel it."
"We knew this day would come, Carter."
Yes, they had known it would come. From the moment Roveena gave birth to her daughter, Pagan, they had known. The little beauty was a threat to the demon clan, and that was why Carter and Andreste were here now. However, it was his recent dream that haunted him. He knew what would happen, and he felt his heart breaking.
"I love you, Andreste. I have from the moment you stepped from the portal light and into my life."
"What have you seen, Carter? What are you hiding from me?"
"You know I can't tell you that, love."
