eBook Description: Cozy up this fall with your favorite authors and characters, in November's EQMM: Edward D. Hoch's "Handel and Gretel," completed by Jon L. Breen after Mr. Hoch's death earlier this year, sends amateur sleuths Stanton & Ives to an English estate to collect original scores penned by George Frideric Handel. Two of John Harvey's series characters who have appeared separately in EQMM, private eye Jack Kiley and D.I. Charlie Resnick, work together for the first time to track down an AWOL British soldier and his young family in "Trouble in Mind." Inspector Çetin Ikmen, protagonist of 10 novels by Barbara Nadel, makes his first short-story appearance investigating the shooting death of an old woman and her pet snakes in "The House That Got Shot." Judith Cutler, who contributed to last month's double issue, returns with "When There's a Will," in which her antiques dealers Griff and Lina settle an estate dispute with the help of an antique dressing case; and Robert Barnard, a perennial favorite of our readers, pokes fun at the traditional holiday newsletter with "A Year to Remember."
Back in the States, and more on the hardboiled side, Janet Dawson's California P.I. Jeri Howard hunts for the hit-and-run driver responsible for the death of a 12-year-old in "Candles on the Corner"; and O'Neil De Noux's series P.I. Lucien Caye appears in "Too Wise," in which the WWII vet tries to clear his name and find the real culprit responsible for the death of a sweet local girl. Rounding out the issue are our regular Departments: in Passport to Crime, a Brazilian hit man generously looks after his neighbors in Rubem Fonseca's "Teresa"; and in Black Mask, L.A. writer Gary Phillips shows us "The Kim Novak Effect" in a darkly funny story about a ring of con artists whose best scheme is inspired by Alfred Hitchock's Vertigo.
