eBook Description: When Jack Meter, a Scotch-drinking private investigator, wakes up from another binge, he discovers he's been kidnapped by aliens. Someone has stolen a device and they want Jack to get it back. Jack would rather stay drunk. It's the only way he knows to forget that Annie, his physicist girlfriend, was blown up in her lab and died in his arms. But the aliens--the Thrittene--see things differently. As Jack begins to piece the case together, he realizes not only has he been lied to, but Annie was also involved with the aliens. With the help of Annie's girlfriend, Claire, Jack uncovers a deadly plot which threatens his sanity and the fate of the universe.

"Had Ray Chandler and Ray Bradbury teamed up, they might have produced a novel of dark dealings, mystery, humour, suspense and sheer out-of-this-world fantasy as entertaining and gripping as Metered Space. The Ray-Team never was, so M.D.Benoit has bravely stepped in to fill the gap with a unique, dazzling novel which, within its first few pages, shows the reader that absolutely nothing is beyond belief in the hands of a talented author--not even the idea of a hard-boozing private eye with the scruffiest office in town, a time machine instead of a wristwatch and clients in the fifth dimension! So cleverly does Ms Benoit create her main character that within two pages, I felt I was reading of a favourite old friend in a well-established series. Clicking off the last page, I was already itching to read what he gets up to in the next Jack Meter adventure. Rating: 4.5 Stars."--Neil Marr, Editor, BeWrite.net
"An interesting challenge for a science fiction author is to so involve the reader so much that he/she suspends their own reality and accepts the events happening in the story as the new reality. If the author weaves a web that absorbs the readers into its coils, the author sighs and says "I've done it." M. D. Benoit does this with skill, creating a world that touches as much on horror as science fiction. She grabs the reader's attention from the start, and refuses to let go until the last scene rolls off 217 pages later. I had intended to read the book over two days, instead I kept at it at one sitting, not turning my computer off until the very early hours of the morning. This is a very interesting and enjoyable book and I recommend it to scifi, fantasy and horror fans that like tension and action coupled with a strong story line."--Midnight Scribe Reviews "This first novel from M. Dominique Benoit has it all; mystery, intrigue, a hard boiled PI and extra-dimensional beings. This is a real page turner. I was up all night because I had to get to the end. Whether you like mystery or sci-fi, you'll be delighted with this story. This is a definite must read book. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Jack Meter, your typical dime store novel PI finds himself on a case that's anything but typical. When he returns to town two years after his girlfriends murder, he's kidnaped by aliens who want him to track down their stolen technology. He soon finds himself embroiled in an incredibly tangled web leading him back to investigate the death of his lover. His employers seem to be as untrustworthy as his adversary, and his only ally hates him with a passion. Can he outsmart a killer and restore the stolen goods before the universe collapses?"--Sharp Writer Reviews "This is a fast paced si-fi that I couldn't put down until it was finished. It has been years since I read anything si-fi, but this one immediately caught my interest. Jack Meter had his work cut out for him when he took on the evil Dr. Meuller, but he would risk life and limb to avenge Annie. Traveling through time and space to 'Other' worlds, he gained the knowledge he needed plus more evidence to fuel his determination to stop Dr. Meuller from cloning a monster. If you like si-fi, or even if you don't, this will keep you rivited to your seat and your eyes glued to the page. A wonderful first effort! I'd rate it 4****(stars)"--Sue Crawford

Unrelenting white.
I twisted and pulled. Wait a minute, I thought, something didn't feel right. What had happened to the croak in my voice, my proof of dutiful cigarette smoking and hard drinking? Come to think of it, where was my hangover? Apart from being tied up and mad about it, I felt great. Physically, at least. "Please do not move, John Meter, it impedes your recovery," a high-pitched voice said. "It's not John, it's Jack," I said. "What the hell did you do to me?" "But our information indicates John as your given name. Why would you insist that we call you Jack?" "Because it's my name, okay?" The guy was a moron. If it was a guy. "Where am I and what do you want?" The Voice stayed silent. I thought it had left until I heard a rustle. "We brought you here because we need your services, Jack Meter. But, first, we had to repair you." "Repair me? What am I, a toaster?" I yanked on whatever was holding me down. "Let me up, will you?" "We cannot do that, Jack Meter." "What did you do to me?" "You were dying."
