The light from lantern behind him lit up half of his face while the other half was concealed in shadow. The desire shining in his eyes was unmistakable as they moved over her face.

"Give yourself to me." Flynne's dark gaze moved down from her face, and her body went up in flames of awareness under his intense scrutiny.

Maren didn't miss his meaning. But she didn't understand why.

"You can do whatever you want to me at any time," she pointed out, hating the way her voice shook.

"Aye, I could. But you're a lady and I'll give you a chance to be treated as such. You're not like the wenches I'm accustomed to." Lifting a hand to her shoulder, he tugged her ripped bodice off her shoulder, smoothed her long hair behind it.
