Fictionwise.com Supports hiebook Reading Device and Format
First North American ePublisher to offer eBooks for the 3rd generation eBook device.
October 12, 2001 - Chatham, NJ - Fictionwise.com announced today that
its inventory of over 1,000 high-quality and award-winning eBooks are now
available for the new hiebook reading device. Fictionwise is the first
ePublisher in North America to offer its catalog of eBooks in the hiebook
format.
“One of our stated goals at Fictionwise is to support the major eBook
formats,” said Scott Pendergrast, Fictionwise co-publisher. “We believe the
hiebook will have a significant impact on the eBook industry. It’s a true
third-generation eBook reader that is priced right and has the full-fledged
PDA and multimedia capabilities that people are demanding.”
Registration at Fictionwise (http://www.fictionwise.com) is free. When a
Fictionwise member purchases an eBook, it is stored in the member’s
“Bookshelf,” where it can be downloaded as needed in any of its supported
formats. Fictionwise now supports Palm Doc (for Palm, Visor and Win CE),
Adobe Acrobat, Rocket/REB1100, Microsoft Reader (Pocket PC and PCs),
Franklin eBookMan, and now the hiebook (hiebook device and PC).
Curtis describes Fictionwise.com as "the most technically advanced eBook
website I know of. Although our books are distributed by numerous online
retailers, Fictionwise's skills in reaching fans and other consumers are
peerless. The technology behind the Fictionwise website, from their micropay
system to the numerous eBook formats they support, makes them a clear
leader."
Scott Pendergrast, co-publisher of Fictionwise, commented, "Our members have
been asking for more variety, more authors, more categories of both fiction
and nonfiction. E-reads owns a killer list of titles that fits right in with
that demand. This relationship will benefit customers and authors alike, as
well as both of our companies. It will allow e-reads to focus on content
acquisition and Fictionwise to focus on keeping our technology and delivery
systems cutting-edge."
eBookAd (http://www.eBookAd.com) is also distributing a desktop version of the hiebook software, which allows users to read hiebook formatted eBooks
on either their personal computer or their hiebook device.
“Fictionwise has certainly established themselves as a proven leader in the
ePublishing industry,” said eBookAd.com Executive Vice President Dustin
Revin. “Having Fictionwise’s titles available in conjunction with the launch
of hiebook adds immeasurable value to our product. We are very pleased to be
able to offer such high caliber content to our customers.”
Fictionwise.com focuses on selling award-winning and high quality eBooks by
top authors. The company also distributes eBooks by other high-quality
publishers. It is believed that the Fictionwise.com website has the largest
eBook collection of major award-winning and -nominated science fiction and
fantasy stories on the Internet. Fictionwise authors include Isaac Asimov,
Larry Niven, Harlan Ellison, Mike Resnick, Robert Silverberg, Nancy Kress,
Ursula K. Le Guin, Jack Williamson, Pamela Sargent, Kate Wilhelm, and many
others.
Fictionwise.com includes many innovative features, such as the ability for
readers to pay either via credit card or a proprietary "Micropay" account,
which allows Fictionwise users to avoid paying minimum credit transaction
fees imposed by credit processing agents. Every week, the website adds
additional eBooks from established professional authors in the science
fiction, fantasy, dark fantasy, mystery, horror, contemporary, and humor
genres as well as nonfiction titles in business, biography, true adventure,
and education.
