Fictionwise Obtains E-Rights to Ursula K. Le Guin Works
Chatham, NJ, USA – August 16, 2001 – Fictionwise.com announced today that it
has secured electronic rights to seven works by leading science fiction
author Ursula K. Le Guin. None of Le Guin’s works have ever before been
available in eBook format.
"Fictionwise is proud to offer Ursula K. Le Guin ebooks," said Scott
Pendergrast, co-publisher of Fictionwise. "She is one of the most honored
and respected science fiction and fantasy authors of all time."
Ursula K. Le Guin has published over a hundred short stories, two
collections of essays, thirteen books for children, five volumes of poetry,
two of translation, and seventeen novels. Among the honors her writing has
received are a National Book Award, five Hugo Awards, five Nebula Awards,
the Kafka Award, a Pushcart Prize, the Howard Vursell Award of the American
Academy of Art and Letters, amongst others.
Of the works to be released at Fictionwise, five were nominated for Hugo or
Nebula Awards, and one is a Nebula Winner. The first work, The Poacher, is
available now. It is the story of a peasant boy who discovers a gigantic
bramble hedge, and for the next two years he spends all his free time
cutting a tunnel through its branches and dreaming of what he will find on
the other side. When he finally breaks through, he finds an enchanted castle
with all of its occupants asleep ... as if under a spell. He is especially
careful not to disturb the princess, for he senses that the source of the
dream he has entered is this sleeping beauty. For more information, go to:
