Almost 300 Short Fiction Ebooks will be Available for Palm, Rocket,
and Computers.
JULY
27, 2000 - Chatham, NJ - Fictionwise.com announced today that
it has signed up more top genre authors, including: Gregory Benford,
Gardner Dozois, Nick DiChario, Laura Resnick, Karen Haber, and
George Zebrowski. Fictionwise has obtained multiple titles from
each of these authors, in most cases 10 or more, which will be
available in eBook formats for the Palm, Rocket eBook, and computers.
In addition, Fictionwise (http://www.fictionwise.com)
also acquired an additional 10 stories by Grandmaster of Science
Fiction Robert Silverberg, including some of his most recent short
work.
Multiple
award winning author Gregory Benford has long been known as a
leading writer of “hard” science fiction stories. Hard science
fiction stories seek to extrapolate current theories of science
in a plausible, yet accessible and entertaining way.
Benford has granted rights to ten of his stories, including
the Hugo award winning short story “If the Stars are Gods,” and
the Hugo nominated story “Doing Lennon.”
Stephen
Pendergrast, co-publisher at Fictionwise.com, commented, “We’re
thrilled to have these stories from Gregory Benford. You can hardly
pick up a ‘Best of the Year’ anthology without seeing some of
his work. This acquisition greatly strengthens our collection
of ‘hard’ SF for fans of this prized category of fiction.”
Gardner
Dozois is an 11 time Hugo Award winning editor, as well as a critically
acclaimed author.
Pendergrast
commented, “Gardner Dozois’ fame as an editor sometimes overshadows
his talent as a writer. He’s won two Nebula® awards for his fiction,
and in addition has been nominated for the Nebula® five times.
Both of his Nebula® winning and several of his nominated works
will be available at Fictionwise.com.”
Nick
DiChario has written dozens of short stories, published in many
of the major markets. He is a current Hugo Nominee for his short
story “Sarajevo,” which is available free for a limited time from
Fictionwise.com. Fictionwise has also acquired two of his other
most acclaimed stories, “The Winterberry,” and “Carp Man.”
Laura
Resnick won the 1993 Campbell Award for Best New Writer. She has
published extensively in both Science Fiction and Romance genres.
She has granted rights to ten of her fantasy and alternate history
stories to Fictionwise.com. She is the daughter of Mike Resnick,
the multiple award winning science fiction author.
Karen
Haber's short fiction has appeared in many magazines and anthologies
including Asimov’s SF Magazine, The Magazine of Fantasy
and Science Fiction, and Science Fiction Age. The author
of eight novels such as "Woman Without A Shadow" and
"Star Trek Voyager: Bless the Beasts", her latest book,
"Science of the X-Men" (with Linc Yakov), will be published
in August. With her husband, Robert Silverberg, she edited the
"UNIVERSE" science fiction anthologies.
George
Zebrowski has published thirty-five books including novels, short
story collections, anthologies, and essays. His short fiction and essays have appeared
in every major science fiction magazine, including Amazing
Stories, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction,
Science Fiction Age, OMNI, and others.
Robert
Silverberg had previously granted eBook rights to 20 of his stories
to Fictionwise.com, including several of his award winning and
nominated stories. Mr. Silverberg has now granted rights to an
additional 10 stories to Fictionwise.com. Among these are two
of his most recently acclaimed novella-length works, “Hot Times
in Magma City,” and “Beauty in the Night.”
Scott
Pendergrast, co-publisher at Fictionwise.com commented, “We’re
very pleased to increase our collection of fine Robert Silverberg
stories. Mr. Silverberg has confirmed that Fictionwise now has
the largest collection of his stories anywhere on the web, and
by a wide margin. We’re especially pleased that he has granted
us exclusive eBook rights to two of his most recent works.”
Stories
by all of these authors are in production now and will start appearing
in early August. Fictionwise.com is striving to become the short
eBook fiction leader, offering works by top genre authors. With
these acquisitions Fictionwise now has a collection of nearly
300 stories in the Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, and Alternate
History genres from top authors including James Patrick Kelly,
John Kessel, Damon Knight, Nancy Kress, David Langford, Mary Soon
Lee, Barry Malzberg, Tom Purdom, Mike Resnick, Pamela Sargent,
Michael Swanwick, and Kate Wilhelm.
