Fictionwise.com Signs Additional Top Authors
JANUARY 17, 2001 - Chatham, NJ - Fictionwise announced today that it has
signed seven new authors, acquiring nearly 100 additional works for the
eBook website. The authors are: Jack Dann, Walter Jon Williams, Robert
Reed, Charles Sheffield, Kage Baker, David Schow, Jerry Oltion, and
Adam-Troy Castro.
Many of the stories acquired are major award-winning or nominated works.
These acquisitions bring the number of stories that have won both the Hugo
and Nebula (R) awards to five, and increases the number of
single-major-award winning stories to over thirty, and major-award nominated
stories to over 100. It is believed that Fictionwise.com has the largest eBook collection of major
award-winning and nominated stories on the web.
Jack Dann is perhaps the best-known science fiction author in Australia, and
he has received dozens of major award nominations as well as winning the
Nebula (R) Award with his novella "Da Vinci Rising." Fictionwise has
acquired ten of his works, including "Da Vinci Rising" and other great
stories.
Walter Jon Williams is a critically acclaimed science fiction author with
over a dozen major award nominations to his credit. He currently has two
stories on the 2001 Nebula (R) Award preliminary ballot, both of which have
been acquired by Fictionwise and will be available for free to registered
Fictionwise members for a limited time. Fictionwise has also acquired eight
other fine stories from Williams.
Robert Reed's science fiction stories appear regularly in major anthologies,
science fiction and fantasy magazines and on awards ballots. Fictionwise has
acquired ten of his stories (available starting in February 2001), including
“The Cuckoo’s Boys” which was selected to be in “The Year's Best Science
Fiction: Sixteenth Annual Collection.”
Charles Sheffield is a multiple award winning science fiction author.
Fictionwise has acquired twelve of his stories, including the Hugo and
Nebula (R) Award winning novelette "Georgia on My Mind," which brings the
Fictionwise collection of double-award stories to five, the largest on the
web.
Kage Baker is a relatively new writer, but has quickly become one of the
most popular short fiction contributors to Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction
Magazine. Fictionwise has acquired several of Baker's "The Company" stories,
which trace the exploits of immortals who work for "Dr. Zeus Inc." and
travel through time on salvage missions. Fictionwise has also acquired many
of Baker's other fine stories, including several that have never before been
published.
David Schow's horror stories have appeared frequently in various "Best
Horror of the Year" anthologies. Fictionwise has acquired thirteen of his
short works, including many of his most acclaimed stories.
Jerry Oltion and Adam-Troy Castro have sold their Hugo and Nebula award
nominated novella "The Astronaut from Wyoming" to Fictionwise.com. This
story was one of the most recognized novellas published in 1999 and traces
the life of a boy who has a rare deformity that sends the media into a
frenzy.
