A MONSTER AT MY WINDOW

Bang ... bang ... bang ... bang ... What was that?

Well whatever it was, it had wakened Ryan up and given him a fright. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and sat up in bed. It was still dark outside. So it must be very early. He switched on the lamp and looked at the clock. It wasn't even 5:00 am yet.

Bang ... bang ... bang ... bang ... What could it be? At first, he thought it must be a burglar trying to break in. But surely a burglar wouldn't make so much noise. He would creep into the house quietly, so as not to waken anyone.

Bang ... bang ... bang ... bang ... As Ryan couldn't think of any other explanation for the noise, he decided it must be a monster.

He was tempted to get out of bed, go over to the window, and take a look. But he was afraid. It sounded very angry, and it might break the glass and attack him.

Bang ... bang ... bang ... bang ... He pulled the covers over his head and just hoped it would go away.

Ryan yawned all through school that day. Being wakened up like that so early had made him tired.

"There's a monster banging on my window," he told his friend, Jason. "It must want to get in."

"Have you told your mother?" asked Jason.

"Yes, but she just laughed. She doesn't believe me."

The next morning, the knocking again wakened Ryan. He felt so tired he almost fell asleep in school. That was when the two friends decided to set a trap for the monster. Jason was going to sleep over on Saturday and they would tackle it together.
