"When my colleagues said that Rick was well enough to be released, I did not agree, but signed anyway. After reading the copy of Dark Angels that he sent me I knew it was a mistake to release him."--Dr. Dumbado Uzwhonemah, Psychiatric evaluator.

On Saturday she sat quietly at the Japanese table that John had arranged in front of the fireplace. His instructions were, "Do not say a word until I have brought the demons forth." She had become accustomed to following his lead without thought or debate; he was her friend--lover--mentor. She silently watched as he lit the many candles that were positioned around the room and on the table that she sat cross-legged in front of . When he sat on the carpet across from her and reached his hands out, she took them.
"Oh mighty Beelzebub," he began in a hushed and haunting voice, "ruler of the darkness, prince of the damned, sovereign over mankind's demons. We call on you to present yourself to us that we might understand your wishes. You have sent your emissaries to this young woman. She wishes to speak to you so that she might understand your desires mighty Satan; master of the underworld." He squeezed her hands then nodded and said quietly, "Speak to him."
"Please help me," was all she could say at first. When she saw the candles on the small table flickering, she glanced around the room. All of the other candles were flickering too and suddenly she had a strong feeling that they were being watched. She turned her head in all directions to see if someone had entered their apartment.
