It's not much fun being the savior of a people- especially an ignorant savior--but she'll learn as she goes. To defeat Huw Cadogan, she will need to look deep into her heart and mind to accept herself and her place in the world. But in which world does she belong? The one she's known all her life--or the hidden land of the shape changer Torrin? WARNING: An almost-rape scene--but no graphic sex--lots of mountain climbing, and a very sarcastic cat. I was pinned against him as a butterfly in a collection and I felt just as helpless.
His eyes hypnotized me. They became my whole world as his face came closer and his lips touched mine in a gentle kiss. I clutched at him as my knees finally gave way. I had never, in all my years, felt such emotions, never.
He did not try to take advantage, but ended the kiss, resting his brow against mine. I was wrapped in his embrace and no longer found it strange.
"You have a puzzle to solve," he said, his voice a low rumble. "Your spell will summon more than just me. It was a very loud spell. There are things that feed on power, things that won't value you, won't even see you but only the power you have. You must be clever and, most importantly, rely on your instincts."
"That's what Gran told me..." I was dazed and yet energy crackled within me. He could feel it too, I think. He smiled that bone-melting smile and slowly moved back. I began to recover somewhat.
